Rainfall and strong winds sweep Karachi under western disturbance

Published on: March 26, 2026 9:44 AM

Parts of Karachi experienced rainfall accompanied by strong winds on Thursday morning as a western weather system began influencing conditions across the region. Dark clouds gathered over the city early in the day, leading to showers of varying intensity in several localities.

Rainfall, ranging from light to heavy, was reported in areas including Metroville, SITE Area, Nazimabad and nearby neighbourhoods. Other parts of the city such as I.I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Shahrah-e-Faisal, the Old City Area, Tower, Clifton Sea View and Lyari also received showers. Additional rainfall was recorded in Scheme 33, Safoora Chowrangi, NIPA and Hassan Square.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the western disturbance has started affecting weather patterns across the country. The system has already brought rain to parts of Balochistan, including Chaman, and is expected to expand its impact in the coming days.

The Met Office has forecast more rain with strong winds in Karachi and other parts of Sindh through March 29. Similar weather conditions are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir until March 30.

Authorities have cautioned that heavy downpours in certain areas may lead to flash flooding, urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, temperatures recorded on Thursday morning showed varying conditions across major cities. Islamabad recorded 16°C, Lahore 20°C, Karachi 25°C, Peshawar 17°C, Quetta 11°C, Gilgit 10°C, Murree 6°C and Muzaffarabad 12°C.
