Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced strict measures to address the petroleum crisis as economic pressure grows due to regional conflict. Under this decision, official fuel for provincial ministers has been completely suspended until the crisis ends.
Moreover, the chief minister ordered an immediate 50 percent reduction in petrol and diesel allowances for government officers’ vehicles. This move aims to reduce fuel consumption while ensuring that essential government functions continue without disruption.
In addition, the Punjab government imposed a ban on protocol vehicles accompanying provincial ministers and senior officials. For unavoidable security needs, only one vehicle will be allowed with ministers or top officers, significantly cutting unnecessary fuel usage.
At the same time, the government introduced a work-from-home policy in public offices. Only essential staff will report to offices, while others will work remotely to further conserve fuel and reduce travel-related expenses.
Finally, as part of the petroleum crisis response, schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed from March 10 to March 31. However, examinations will continue as scheduled, and institutions may conduct online classes, reinforcing the fuel cuts strategy announced earlier.
