Islamabad roads closed ahead of religious party protests in red zone

Published on: March 6, 2026 3:38 PM

Authorities in Islamabad closed several roads leading to the Red Zone on Friday as security preparations intensified ahead of expected protests by religious parties, aiming to ensure public safety and traffic management.

Officials stated that Margalla Road and the route passing through the Islamabad Marriott Hotel will remain open for entry, while all other access points to the Red Zone have been blocked to prevent congestion.

Traffic heading towards China Chowk via Fazal-e-Haq Road will also remain closed, with authorities advising commuters to use Jinnah Avenue as an alternative route to reach central areas safely amid ongoing security measures.

Several traffic diversions have been announced, including rerouting vehicles from Polyclinic to Lal Quarter Chowk via Luqman Hakim Road, while Saddar Road has been suggested as an additional alternative for motorists traveling in the vicinity.

Commuters moving between G-6 and F-6 sectors are encouraged to use the China Chowk underpass or travel through Seventh Avenue to Jinnah Avenue, with traffic from Abpara Chowk towards Serena Hotel also being redirected for safety.

The advisory comes ahead of a planned protest march from G-6 to D-Chowk, with police urging citizens to stay updated through the traffic helpline 1915 or by tuning into live updates on ITF FM 92.4.
