2,000 motorbikes in three days, 233,000 cars tagged in ICT

Published on: February 23, 2026 3:03 AM

More than 2,000 motorcycle riders received M-Tag stickers in the last three days, while 233,000 motor vehicles have already been tagged in Islamabad, as authorities continued the registration drive on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner and the Director General Excise.

The initiative aims to ensure vehicle identification and compliance across the federal capital, said the spokesman of the Excise & Taxation department here.

According to officials, the ongoing campaign is being carried out under the supervision of the district administration in Islamabad. Motorcycle riders are being facilitated at multiple locations to speed up the process and reduce inconvenience for the public.

The administration confirmed that the installation of M-Tags on motorcycles is currently underway at several points across the city. These include Jinnah Park in Sector F-9, a police check post in G-14, Gulberg Greens, Malpur, Faizabad, the wheat depot near Sabzi Mandi Police Station, Daman-e-Koh on Murree Road, near Tulip Hotel, Rawat T-Cross, Ninth Avenue, and along Margalla Avenue. Officials said these sites were selected to cover both urban and entry routes of the capital.

The Excise Department stated that the service is being provided on a daily basis to accommodate a large number of riders. On the special instructions of DG Excise, the facility was also made available on Sunday so that working citizens could benefit without delay.

Motorcycle owners have been advised to bring their vehicle registration documents along with a valid national identity card when visiting any M-Tag installation point. Officials said the process is being kept simple so that riders can complete tagging without facing procedural hurdles.

Authorities warned that the installation of M-Tags is essential to avoid any legal action in the future. Citizens have been urged to ensure immediate compliance to prevent fines or other enforcement measures during routine checks. The administration said the tagging system helps in vehicle identification, record management, and enforcement operations within the city.

Speaking on the matter, Bilal Azam said the department is committed to extending full cooperation to the public. He added that the response from motorcycle riders over the past few days has been encouraging, with thousands already completing the process.

Officials said the campaign will continue in the coming days, and more facilitation points may be added if required. Citizens were encouraged to take advantage of the available facilities at nearby locations and complete the tagging process at the earliest. The district administration reiterated that the drive is part of broader efforts to regulate traffic, maintain updated vehicle records, and ensure smoother law enforcement operations across Islamabad.
