Geneva hosts new round of Russia-Ukraine talks

Published on: February 17, 2026 6:00 PM

Russian officials arrived in Geneva on Tuesday for talks with US and Ukrainian teams aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, a source in the Russian delegation said. The delegation is led by nationalist historian and former culture minister Vladimir Medinsky.

The Russian plane carrying the delegation landed in Geneva at approximately 06:00 GMT, according to the source. The discussions are expected to focus on ceasefire arrangements, humanitarian access, and potential pathways to de-escalation.

The arrival comes amid renewed international pressure for diplomatic solutions following recent escalations in Ukraine. In parallel, Ukraine reported that one person was killed and six injured in a Russian air attack on a port in the Odesa region.

Details of the agenda remain limited, though observers expect both sides to discuss mechanisms for civilian protection, prisoner exchanges, and safe corridors for humanitarian aid. The talks mark another attempt to bring stability after years of intermittent conflict.

Officials from the United States are participating as mediators, with the goal of facilitating dialogue and exploring compromise solutions. Geneva’s neutral setting continues to serve as a key venue for high-level negotiations on the Ukraine crisis.
