iOS 26 streamlines iPhone to android data transfer

Published on: February 17, 2026 9:26 PM

Apple’s iOS 26.3 update introduces a new tool that simplifies transferring data from iPhone to Android, ending years of frustration for users wanting to switch platforms without complicated steps or third-party apps.

Previously, users had to rely on Google’s Android Switch app to migrate contacts, messages, photos, and notes. Now, iOS 26.3 allows seamless transfers by placing the devices close together and following a few easy prompts.

To start the migration, users scan a QR code displayed on the Android phone or enter a session ID and pairing code on their iPhone. After connecting, they can select data including photos, messages, apps, passwords, and contacts for transfer.

However, the tool has some limitations. It cannot transfer health data, paired Bluetooth devices, or protected items like locked notes, and both devices must run the latest software with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.

The feature is part of a broader collaboration between Apple and Google to simplify data portability. Google has also implemented a similar tool for users moving data from Android to iPhone, reflecting growing ecosystem cooperation.

By making cross-platform transfers easier, Apple and Google aim to reduce friction for users switching devices, encouraging more flexibility in choosing between iOS and Android without the technical hurdles that existed for decades.
