Weather update: Cold spell to persist in Karachi this week

Published on: January 26, 2026 2:50 PM

Karachi is set to continue experiencing a spell of chilly weather this week, with no immediate relief in sight, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Monday. Residents are advised to brace for cooler temperatures, especially during early mornings and nights.

According to the PMD, the minimum temperature in the city is expected to hover between 10°C and 12°C, while daytime highs are likely to range from 20°C to 22°C. Dry and cool winds will continue to sweep across the metropolis, though their intensity is expected to gradually ease as the week progresses. The weather is forecast to remain mostly clear, with partly cloudy conditions possible at times.

The cold spell follows a recent bout of rain last week that saw mercury dip to as low as 6°C in some areas, with “feels like” temperatures dropping to 4°C on Friday. Meteorological experts attribute the current conditions to a combination of westerly winds and the residual impact of a westerly system over the Arabian Sea, which brought rain and gusty winds.

Looking ahead, the PMD predicts Karachi’s weather to remain moderate throughout February, though nights may continue to experience a slight chill. The current cold snap, while mild compared to northern parts of Pakistan, has prompted residents to layer up and remain cautious during early morning hours.

City dwellers are advised to monitor updates from the PMD and take standard precautions, particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, as cool winds and fluctuating temperatures can exacerbate health risks.

As Karachi continues to adjust to these wintry conditions, the combination of dry winds, clear skies, and mild daytime warmth will make for pleasant daytime weather, though early mornings and nights will remain distinctly cold for the remainder of the week.
