Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari defended Mariam Nawaz after social media criticism of her wedding attire. She said jealousy, not decorum, drives the backlash. The minister emphasized Mariam’s elegance is natural and should not attract negative comments.
The controversy followed her son Junaid Safdar’s Mehndi, wedding, and Walima celebrations. Photos of Mariam Nawaz circulated widely on social media. Some users criticized her for not appearing “bride-ready,” while others praised her appearance and grace.

Bukhari explained that wedding traditions allow families to dress according to their means and social customs. She said Mariam’s attire was appropriate and reflected celebration, not extravagance. The minister highlighted that Junaid Safdar’s wedding was a “top of the town” event.
