PTA launches initiative to keep mobile SIM active for overseas Pakistanis

Published on: January 19, 2026 2:27 PM

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a new initiative to help overseas Pakistanis keep their mobile SIM cards active and prevent them from being blocked while abroad. The move is part of the authority’s commitment to providing uninterrupted telecom services to citizens living outside Pakistan.

Under the initiative, subscribers can inform their respective cellular companies and pay the applicable charges to retain their SIM cards for a specific period. This ensures that overseas Pakistanis remain connected with family and friends in the country without interruption.

The PTA has issued detailed guidelines for both prepaid and postpaid customers. Prepaid users are advised to use their mobile services at least once every 180 days by making a call, sending an SMS, or using mobile data. Postpaid subscribers are instructed to pay their monthly line rent and any outstanding dues on time to retain their connection.

In addition to this initiative, the PTA has warned consumers about rising scams involving fake calls and UAN numbers. The authority emphasised that no government organisation, including PTA, FIA, or banks, will ever ask for OTPs, PINs, ID card numbers, or biometric information. Citizens are urged to verify all communications through official channels.

The PTA also reminded users to ensure that SIMs are registered in their own names. Any misuse of a SIM is the responsibility of the registered consumer, including calls made, messages sent, or data used. The authority stressed the importance of responsible usage to avoid potential violations of telecom regulations.

With this initiative, the PTA aims to provide overseas Pakistanis with secure, uninterrupted access to mobile services while safeguarding them from fraud and SIM-related issues.
