In the last 6 years, 5,761 incidents of sexual violence against minor children and girls have reported in Punjab. 9,524 gang rape accused have been nominated in these cases. Despite all-out efforts and claims, the police have been able to arrest 8,451 accused; the rest are at large.
According to Punjab Police statistics provided to Daily Times, 638 incidents of gang rape of minor boys and girls have recorded in Punjab during the last six years. In these cases, 1,710 accused have been nominated, and 1,452 have been arrested by the police.
In the year 2020, 962 cases were registered, 827 challans were completed, 134 were cancelled, one was untraceable, out of 1,544, 1,433 accused were arrested. In the year 2021, 963 cases were registered, 807 challans were completed, 153 were cancelled, two were untraceable, one was under-investigation, out of 1,433, 1378 accused were arrested. In the year 2022, 1,191 cases were registered, 97 challans were completed, 213 were cancelled, three were untraceable, under investigation, out of 1,668 accused, and 1,491 were arrested.
In the year 2023, 1,313 cases were registered, 1,067 challans were completed, 238 were cancelled, five were untraceable, three cases were under investigation, and 1,501 out of 1701 accused were arrested. In the year 2024, 1,297 cases, 1,056 challans completed, 232 cancelled, two untraceable, four under investigation, 1,435 out of 1,592 accused were arrested. In the present year 2025, 1,332 cases of sexual violence have been registered, out of which 1,025 challans were completed, 180 were cancelled, 127 were still under investigation, 1,641 were nominated, and 1,335 accused were arrested.
In the year 2020, 45 cases of gang rape were registered, 40 challans were completed, five were cancelled, and 130 out of 138 accused were arrested.
In the year 2021, 58 cases of gang rape were registered, 49 challans were completed, nine were cancelled, and 185 accused out of 192 were arrested.
In the year 2022, 62 cases of gang rape were registered, 52 challans were completed, 10 were cancelled, and 151 out of 172 accused were arrested.
In 2023, 96 cases were completed, 78 challans were issued, 18 were cancelled, and 262 out of 289 accused were arrested.
In the year 2024, 144 cases, 126 challans completed, 16 cancelled, one untraceable, one under investigation, 284 out of 327 accused were arrested.
This year, 233 cases were registered, 173 challans were completed, 27 were cancelled, 33 were under investigation, and 440 out of 592 accused were arrested.
