Alhamra celebrates Qawwali’s golden spirit

Published on: December 28, 2025 1:49 AM

The Lahore Arts Council Alhamra reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Pakistan’s spiritual and cultural heritage by hosting a captivating evening of Qawwali that resonated deeply with the audience.

The event stood as a powerful reminder of Qawwali’s sacred roots in the soil of Punjab, and its timeless message of love, peace and human connection, inspired by the teachings of the Sufi saints.

The highlight of the evening was a mesmerizing performance by renowned Qawwal Sidra Rubab, who, along with her fellow artists, presented Sufi kalam with exceptional devotion, vocal maturity, and artistic finesse. Her soulful rendition created a spiritual atmosphere, leaving the audience spellbound. The depth of her voice, her command of classical phrasing and her emotional intensity earned prolonged applause and widespread appreciation from music lovers at the venue.

Executive Director Alhamra Muhammad Nawaz Gondal stated that Qawwali is a sacred spiritual art deeply rooted in the soul of the subcontinent, and Alhamra remains committed to preserving its golden legacy while passing it on to the younger generation. He added that artists like Sidra Rubab are true custodians of this tradition, whose performances continue to unite hearts and uplift the spirit through the timeless power of Qawwali.

The event was also graced by eminent intellectual and music scholar Professor Abdullah Bhatti, who praised Alhamra’s vision and sustained efforts in promoting spiritual music. He commended the Executive Director for curating a series of meaningful programs that present Pakistan’s cultural identity to the world in a positive, graceful and authentic manner.

Cultural circles have widely acknowledged that the Lahore Arts Council Alhamra’s initiatives to promote Qawwali are not only commendable but also instrumental in strengthening Pakistan’s spiritual, cultural and artistic image at national and international levels.
