PM Shehbaz to inaugurate Iqbal Chowk flyover

Published on: December 18, 2025 6:51 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to inaugurate the T-Chowk Flyover, also known as the Iqbal Chowk Flyover, on Thursday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced during a briefing.

Naqvi stated that the prime minister first inspected the site on September 12, after which construction began on September 19 and was completed by December 5, reflecting a record 77-day completion timeframe.

The minister praised the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the project team, noting that one civil engineer supervised round-the-clock work to ensure timely completion without compromising quality or safety.

He highlighted Islamabad’s population growth, which has quadrupled in the last two decades, while road and civic infrastructure lagged behind, emphasizing the need to both catch up on past projects and plan for future needs.

The flyover, situated at a major junction connecting Rawalpindi, Rawat, and Lahore with Islamabad, is expected to serve approximately 100,000 commuters daily, reducing traffic congestion and improving travel efficiency into the federal capital.

Naqvi also unveiled a broader development plan, Vision 2027, under which around 130 projects will be announced in early January, including roads, hospitals, recreation facilities, and other civic initiatives to improve the city’s infrastructure.

Officials lauded environmental efforts at the flyover site, noting that over 3,000 trees and shrubs were planted to enhance aesthetics and the surrounding environment, aligning with the government’s focus on sustainable urban development.
