The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday warned that it would initiate contempt of court proceeding against the concerned if pension was not paid to former Auditor General Akhtar Buland Rana by the end of this month. The court said that if it was felt necessary, the accounts of the Accountant General of Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) and the Auditor General can also be frozen. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the case against non-payment of pension to former Auditor General. During hearing of the case, the court remarked that the fact that an intra-court appeal is pending does not mean that the implementation of the court order should be stopped. The court remarked that if the appeal is pending, then suspend our order, otherwise fully implement it. The court ordered the immediate payment of the petitioner’s monthly pension and warned that if the pension is not paid by the end of this month, it will be considered contempt of court. Justice Mohsin Kayani said that court orders are sometimes obeyed, sometimes not. The authorities are making fun of the judiciary, he said. The court inquired that why the previous court order was not implemented. On which the representative of AGPR took the stand that an intra-court appeal has been filed, so time should be given. The court rejected this stand and said that we do not make decisions based on any stubbornness or ego, but the non-implementation of court orders reduces the public’s trust in the court. The court has sought a report on the payment of monthly pension as well as the amount remaining after payment and by when it will be paid. During the hearing, it was also told that the former Auditor General’s liabilities amount to more than Rs 25.6 million. Advocate Taimur Aslam appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner. The court adjourned the further hearing of the case till January 12, with instructions.
