Trump warns Indiana republicans over voting map

Published on: December 11, 2025 9:00 PM

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened Indiana Republican lawmakers who oppose his proposed congressional redistricting plan, warning that dissent could lead to political consequences in upcoming elections.

The Trump-backed map, advancing to its final stage in the Indiana Senate, aims to redraw the state’s nine US House seats, potentially allowing Republicans to sweep all seats in 2026.

Trump took to social media, stating that Republicans who oppose the redistricting or Republican Party success in Washington will face a “MAGA Primary” in the spring, signaling strong political pressure.

Currently, Republicans hold 40 of 50 seats in the Indiana Senate, but at least a dozen GOP lawmakers, including Senate President Rod Bray, have opposed the plan, while several remain undecided.

Trump added that those opposing the plan “won’t be in politics for long” and vowed to prevent actions that could weaken the Republican Party or the country, highlighting his aggressive stance.

Pressure on Republican-led states to redefine electoral districts has increased in recent months, with the US Supreme Court recently allowing Texas to use redrawn districts for the 2026 midterms.
