“Bond of respect is greater than politics,” says NA speaker

Published on: November 28, 2025 6:00 PM

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq once again offered to facilitate talks between the government and the opposition. He told visiting parliamentarians on Friday that dialogue is the only way to resolve political issues. Sadiq stressed that mutual respect and relationships should be stronger than politics.

Sadiq met opposition members from both houses of Parliament soon after the NA session adjourned due to lack of quorum. The delegation included Senators Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Faisal Javed, former NA speaker Asad Qaiser, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and several MNAs. During the meeting, Sadiq emphasized that politics ends eventually, but personal and professional bonds must last a lifetime.

The speaker reiterated that he has consistently supported dialogue as a tool to address differences. He said parliamentarians should maintain long-term relationships beyond political rivalries. Opposition members expressed appreciation for Sadiq’s efforts to promote talks and reduce political tensions.

The PTI raised concerns regarding Imran Khan’s family, who are reportedly not allowed to meet the incarcerated leader. The dialogue process between the government and PTI has repeatedly stalled over key issues, including judicial probes into the May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024, protests, and the release of PTI prisoners.

Despite repeated offers from Sadiq and government ministers since last year, the PTI has questioned the government’s credibility to initiate talks. The speaker reiterated his readiness to facilitate dialogue while the political standoff continues, urging cooperation and mutual respect to maintain stability in Parliament.
