Pakistan, Türkiye enhance cooperation on security and counterterrorism

Published on: November 6, 2025 6:10 PM

Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to boost cooperation in counterterrorism, border management, anti-narcotics operations, cybercrime, and human trafficking prevention through the creation of a new Joint Working Group. The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Türkiye’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya in Islamabad, where both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional peace and security.

During the meeting, the ministers held one-on-one and delegation-level discussions focusing on key areas including border security, coast guard collaboration, and enhanced police training. The two sides agreed that the newly formed Joint Working Group would meet four times a year to assess progress and develop strategies for joint enforcement operations and intelligence sharing. Minister Naqvi emphasized that “Pakistan’s security is inseparable from Türkiye’s security,” underscoring the mutual trust that defines bilateral relations.

Minister Yerlikaya praised Pakistan’s strong efforts in fighting terrorism and narcotics smuggling, noting that Ankara views Islamabad as a vital partner in regional stability. He highlighted that cooperation in immigration control and countering human trafficking will be expanded through joint training programs and the exchange of expertise. The ministers also reviewed the potential for collaboration between Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Türkiye’s law enforcement institutions to strengthen cybercrime prevention and digital forensics capabilities.

In his remarks, Minister Naqvi stated that human trafficking and illegal immigration are global issues requiring shared solutions. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Türkiye in the upcoming Interpol elections and appreciated Ankara’s role in regional counterterrorism efforts. He further noted that Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force had successfully prevented drug trafficking cases from reaching Türkiye in the last five years, demonstrating the effectiveness of ongoing bilateral cooperation.

Yerlikaya expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s hospitality and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to expanding ties in all fields. He said the creation of the Joint Working Group would help institutionalize cooperation between both countries’ interior ministries. The meeting was attended by senior Pakistani officials, including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Federal Secretary of Interior, and the heads of ANF, FIA, NACTA, and Islamabad Police, reflecting both nations’ shared resolve to strengthen their strategic partnership.
