ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari revealed on Monday that a delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met him and President Asif Ali Zardari to seek their party’s backing for the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Bilawal said the proposed amendment carried several major provisions, including the establishment of constitutional courts, the restoration of executive magistrates, and changes concerning the transfer of judges. It also reportedly involves amending Article 243 — which relates to the command of the armed forces — and removing safeguards protecting the provincial share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.

According to the PPP statement, the draft amendment also includes proposals to return key subjects such as education and population planning to the federal government, along with measures to resolve the longstanding deadlock over appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Bilawal added that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) would convene on November 6, following President Zardari’s return from Doha, to deliberate and decide the party’s official stance on the proposed changes.
