LONDON — In a stunning royal shake-up, King Charles III has stripped his brother Prince Andrew of all royal titles, effectively turning him into a private citizen — a move described by Piers Morgan as “one of the most extraordinary statements ever released by the Palace.”
The decision removes all of Andrew’s royal designations, including Prince, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Killyleagh, while his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, retain their titles. The former royal will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Morgan reacted sharply, writing, “De-Princed. Astonishing.” In a follow-up post, the journalist added, “The King has basically turned his brother into a non-Royal.”

The Palace’s announcement came just days after Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson faced renewed scrutiny over their past ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Buckingham Palace also confirmed that Andrew’s lease on the Royal Lodge has been terminated, and he will move to private accommodation.

A Palace statement read, “These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.” It added that the King and Queen’s sympathies remain with victims and survivors of all forms of abuse, signaling a firm stance on accountability within the Royal Family.
