Massive fire engulfs Karachi tyre warehouse; 22 trucks battle blaze

Published on: October 30, 2025 8:44 PM

A massive fire broke out on Wednesday evening at a tyre warehouse in Karachi’s Mawach Goth area, sending plumes of thick smoke across the skyline. Firefighters have declared it a third-degree blaze as efforts to contain it entered their fifth hour.

According to fire brigade officials, the fire erupted at a tyre storage facility spread over 2,000 square yards near the Northern Bypass. The cause is suspected to be a short circuit. The flames quickly engulfed the entire warehouse, while strong winds in the open area intensified the spread. Rescue 1122’s Fire Operations In-Charge, Lubna Fazal, confirmed that the fire had also spread to an adjacent warehouse.

As many as 22 fire trucks are currently battling the inferno. Authorities are using both water and foam to extinguish the flames, while workers have started demolishing boundary walls around the site to prevent further spread. The operation, officials said, is being carried out from three directions to control the situation.

Fire brigade officials noted that the fire’s intensity remains high, making it difficult to bring under control swiftly. The Karachi Water Corporation has declared an emergency across all city hydrants to ensure uninterrupted water supply for firefighting operations.

No casualties have been reported so far. However, officials warned that it may take several more hours to fully extinguish the fire and cool down the site. Nearby residents have been advised to stay clear of the area due to heavy smoke and heat.
