Zardari, Shehbaz to decide Azad Kashmir leadership today

Published on: October 30, 2025 3:51 PM

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are expected to meet today at the Presidency to discuss government formation in Azad Kashmir. Sources said the meeting will include PML-N ministers alongside the Prime Minister, while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will join with his party delegation.

The meeting comes ahead of a possible in-house change in Azad Kashmir, with the PPP reportedly finalizing Chaudhry Yaseen as its candidate for the Prime Minister position. Earlier, the PPP central leadership approved Yaseen’s name during a meeting chaired by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

During the meeting, the PPP considered four names for the top post, including Chaudhry Yaseen, Latif Akbar, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, and Sardar Yaqub Khan. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari ultimately endorsed Chaudhry Yaseen as the final candidate.

A few days ago, a Kashmir Affairs committee meeting in Islamabad included President Zardari, senior PML-N and PPP leaders, and Azad Kashmir representatives. The discussions focused on the current political situation and the potential in-house leadership change in Azad Kashmir.

The upcoming meeting is expected to finalize strategies and build consensus between the federal government and political parties regarding the Azad Kashmir government formation. Sources suggest this is a crucial step in resolving the ongoing political uncertainty in the region.
