Shehbaz returns after securing major economic deal with Saudi Arabia

Published on: October 29, 2025 9:58 PM

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif returned to Islamabad on Wednesday after completing a successful official visit to Saudi Arabia, where he held high-level discussions to strengthen bilateral ties. His visit marked a key step toward advancing Pakistan’s economic agenda and expanding cooperation with the Kingdom across multiple sectors, including investment, energy, and infrastructure. The visit also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing long-term strategic relations with Saudi Arabia, a crucial partner in the region.

During his stay, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. Both leaders agreed to launch a comprehensive Economic Cooperation Framework designed to elevate Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations into a new era of strategic partnership. This framework aims to promote direct investments, create new employment opportunities, and boost trade between the two nations. Moreover, the discussions reflected mutual confidence and shared goals for regional stability and economic growth.

The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s interest in attracting Saudi investments in priority areas such as energy, mining, information technology, and agriculture. He highlighted that such collaborations could play a transformative role in Pakistan’s development by modernizing industries and increasing exports. The two sides also reviewed progress on previously agreed projects and explored new avenues to accelerate bilateral cooperation. Additionally, both leaders expressed optimism about future joint ventures that could benefit both economies.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the 9th edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Conference held under the theme, “Is Humanity in the Right Direction?” The conference gathered world leaders, global investors, and innovators to discuss emerging economic challenges and opportunities in technology and sustainable development. His participation not only showcased Pakistan’s growing role in international economic discussions but also opened doors for future partnerships with global investors.

Before departing, the Prime Minister appreciated Saudi Arabia’s consistent support for Pakistan and expressed confidence that the new economic framework would lead to tangible progress in the coming months. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to maintain close cooperation with the Kingdom on all fronts, including energy transition, investment promotion, and strategic dialogue. The visit concluded on a positive note, signaling a renewed era of collaboration between Islamabad and Riyadh aimed at shared prosperity and stability.
