Secretary seeks proposal to improve education, college infrastructure

Secretary College Education Nadeem ur Rehman Memon chaired a significant meeting with the Regional Directors and Principals of Karachi Region. The meeting focused on various issues including college infrastructure, lack of basic facilities, budget constraints, unavailability of laboratories, admission processes, the four-year BS program, student enrollment and attendance systems, sports, and extracurricular activities.

During the meeting, directors highlighted major challenges faced by colleges and proposed solutions. These challenges included improvement in infrastructure, budget shortages, lack of teaching staff, and absence of laboratories and other essential facilities.

Secretary Nadeem ur Rehman Memon reiterated that improving college infrastructure and providing modern amenities to educational institutions is the department’s foremost priority. He instructed officials to prepare immediate recommendations to resolve the identified issues, ensuring students receive quality education and a conducive learning environment.

Principals from 61 colleges in the Karachi region also participated in the meeting via Zoom. During the session, Secretary College Education engaged with the principals online and gathered their suggestions regarding the problems faced by colleges and potential solutions.

Principal Rehana Memon, participating via Zoom, shared that her college has a high student population but insufficient teaching staff. She suggested that teachers from colleges with lower student numbers be temporarily assigned to institutions facing staff shortages.

Secretary College Education Nadeem ur Rehman Memon emphasized again that enhancing infrastructure, increasing facilities, and raising educational standards are the department’s top priorities. He added that he is committed to resolving current issues on a priority basis and has issued clear directives to the concerned officers.

The meeting was attended by DG Colleges Dr. Naveed Rabb, Director Colleges Karachi Region Qazi Ashraf Hussain, Special Secretary College Education Farukh Shehzad, Additional Secretary Mukhtiar Mallah, Additional Secretary Iqbal Jumani, Director (Development) Ali Abbas Tipu, Additional Director (Judicial) Ehsan Leghari, Additional Director (Finance) Hafeezullah Mehr, and Additional Director (HR) Kamran Ahmed from RD Office Karachi.
