ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to bilateral maritime cooperation with the United States during an official visit, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Friday.

The visit aimed to enhance defence engagements and professional collaboration between the Pakistan Navy and US Navy, which share a long-standing relationship. In September, the US Navy ship USS Wayne E. Meyer departed from Karachi after a two-day port call, further strengthening ties.

During his visit, Admiral Ashraf met with US Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Vice Admiral Yvette Davids and Acting Vice Commandant of the US Coast Guard Vice Admiral Thomas G. Allan Jr. The meetings focused on regional security dynamics, maritime cooperation, and professional training opportunities.

At the National Defence University (NDU) at Fort Lesley J. McNair, the naval chief met with NDU President Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin, discussing politico-military cooperation, maritime security, capacity-building initiatives, and shared maritime interests.

He also held discussions with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Stanley L. Brown and addressed a gathering of US scholars and think-tank experts, highlighting regional maritime challenges and Pakistan Navy’s contributions to collaborative efforts.

According to ISPR, the visit reflects enduring defence ties between Pakistan and the US and reaffirms mutual commitment to promoting maritime security in the region and beyond.

The development comes amid improving bilateral relations. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US President Donald Trump, alongside Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. In June, the COAS became the first serving chief of army staff to meet a sitting US president during a face-to-face lunch with Trump.
