Jakarta: Indonesia has decided to purchase China’s advanced J-10C fighter jets after their proven effectiveness in recent conflicts. The move marks Indonesia’s first-ever acquisition of Chinese-made combat aircraft, aimed at modernizing its air defense capabilities.
According to Chinese media, Indonesia’s Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto confirmed that the country will soon acquire the J-10C jets. Once the deal is complete, Indonesia will become the third nation—after China and Pakistan—to operate these modern fighters. He stated that the jets would soon be seen flying over Jakarta, though no delivery timeline was provided.

Finance Minister Prabowo Yudi Sadewa also confirmed that his ministry has approved $9 billion for the purchase. Reports suggest Indonesia plans to buy at least 42 J-10C aircraft as part of a broader military upgrade program. The defense ministry said it seeks “the best combat weapons” to strengthen the nation’s air power.
Local media reported that the Indonesian Air Force is currently assessing the aircraft to ensure they meet the country’s defense needs. The J-10C, built by Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, is a 4.5-generation multirole fighter featuring an advanced engine, AESA radar, and PL-15 missiles.

Currently, Pakistan is the only other country using the J-10C, having ordered 36 jets in 2020. Reports claimed Pakistan successfully used these aircraft during a recent clash with India, where they downed several enemy planes, including French-made Rafales. Indonesia’s purchase signals growing global confidence in China’s defense technology.
