ISLAMABAD – The federal government on Wednesday announced a reduction in petroleum prices for the next fortnight, bringing petrol down by Rs5.66 per litre in line with recent international market trends.

According to a notification from the Finance Division, the new petrol price now stands at Rs263.02 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by Rs1.39, bringing it to Rs275.41 per litre.

Similarly, kerosene oil has been cut by Rs3.26 to Rs181.71 per litre, and light diesel oil is now priced at Rs162.76 per litre.

The notification stated that the adjustment was made based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and relevant ministries, effective from October 16, 2025.

Petrol is widely used in motorcycles, rickshaws, and small cars — essential modes of transport for Pakistan’s middle and lower-middle classes. Any fluctuation in its price directly affects household budgets and commuting costs.

High-speed diesel, on the other hand, is crucial for the transport and agriculture sectors, powering heavy vehicles, buses, and tractors. Experts note that diesel prices have a strong link to food inflation, as higher transport costs lead to increased prices of vegetables and other essentials.

The latest fuel price revision offers limited but welcome relief to consumers grappling with persistent inflation and high living costs.
