South Africa stumbles to 216-6 after Pakistan’s 378

Published on: October 13, 2025 6:16 PM

South Africa ended Day 2 of the first Test against Pakistan at 216 for 6 in Lahore. They are still 162 runs behind Pakistan’s first innings total of 378. The Proteas lost wickets regularly throughout the day and failed to build strong partnerships. Pakistan’s bowlers, especially Nauman Ali, kept tight control over the game. The Test is part of a two-match series.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan resumed their innings at 313 for 5, with Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha at the crease. Rizwan added 13 runs before getting out for 75. Salman fell just short of a century, scoring 93 before being dismissed. Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan went back to the pavilion without scoring. Pakistan’s innings folded at 378 runs.

South Africa’s bowlers performed well on Day 2. Senuran Muthusamy led the attack and claimed six wickets, including three in one over. Prenelan Subrayen supported well with two wickets, while Kagiso Rabada and Simon Harmer took one each. Despite their efforts, Pakistan managed a strong total to put early pressure on South Africa.

In response, South Africa started poorly and lost wickets at regular intervals. Captain Aiden Markram scored only 20 before being caught behind off Nauman Ali. Wiaan Mulder, Ryan Rickelton, Dewald Brevis, and Kyle Verreynne failed to play big innings. The team struggled against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack.

By the end of Day 2, Tony de Zorzi remained not out on 81, showing some resistance. Muthusamy stayed with him on 6 runs. Nauman Ali took four wickets for Pakistan, while Salman Ali Agha and Sajid Khan took one each. South Africa needs a strong fightback on Day 3 to stay in the game.
