Pakistan, Malaysia Strengthen Ties with New Trade and Defense Accords

Published on: October 7, 2025 8:04 AM

Pakistan and Malaysia have pledged to boost Pakistan Malaysia cooperation through new trade, defense, and economic initiatives. During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Malaysia, both countries agreed to work on a forward-looking partnership under the Asean framework. The talks in Putrajaya marked a major step toward diversifying relations beyond traditional ties and strengthening collaboration in multiple sectors.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia’s ties with Pakistan had “stagnated” and now needed renewed energy and practical direction. He emphasized that both nations must expand trade and reduce dependency on “one country, one system.” He highlighted Pakistan as an important partner for future cooperation within Asean and other global platforms.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing collaboration through the Joint Committee on Defense Cooperation. They also discussed expanding technology transfer and enhancing connectivity between the two nations through improved air travel and tourism initiatives.

In addition, Malaysia praised Pakistan’s constructive stance on Middle East peace efforts and expressed readiness to work together on regional stability. The countries also agreed to intensify collaboration in cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, and anti-corruption measures. The agreements include information sharing, knowledge transfer, and enhanced coordination to tackle global challenges such as cybercrime and transnational threats.
