Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced immediate relief for people affected by devastating floods, directing power distribution companies to stop collecting electricity bills for August in all flood-hit areas. Chairing a high-level meeting, he stressed that the government is prioritizing the needs of flood victims during this national emergency and will ensure timely financial relief for millions of affected households across Pakistan.
In addition, Shehbaz Sharif instructed that consumers who already paid their August electricity bills will receive adjustments in the next billing cycle. This step, he explained, will reduce the financial burden on flood-affected families, giving them space to recover from losses caused by the widespread destruction. He assured that no household in disaster zones would be left without relief.
Moreover, the prime minister announced that a detailed relief package for electricity bills will be finalized following negotiations with the International Monetary Fund. He noted that the government is carefully designing the package to balance people’s urgent needs with economic stability, promising that the relief will be comprehensive and effective.
Highlighting the severity of the disaster, Shehbaz Sharif said that millions have been displaced or directly affected by floods. He underlined that the government is fully aware of the immense suffering in flood-ravaged areas and is determined to ease hardships through practical support and immediate financial assistance.
Furthermore, the prime minister reaffirmed that federal and provincial institutions are actively engaged in large-scale rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations. He vowed that the government will not rest until every displaced citizen has safely returned home, emphasizing that rebuilding lives and communities remains the top priority.
