Israeli President Isaac Herzog has said that Israel is ready for a comprehensive agreement, an end to the war, the return of hostages, and a path forward. He made these remarks while speaking at Chatham House, a UK-based think tank in London. Responding to a journalist’s question, Herzog emphasized Israel’s willingness to act. He stated, “We are ready. We keep waiting. But Hamas keeps manipulating the proposals.”
His comments come just one day after Israel carried out an airstrike in Doha targeting a Hamas delegation. The group was reportedly in Qatar to discuss a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal. The strike drew international condemnation and raised tensions across the region. Critics accused Israel of sabotaging ongoing peace talks.
This development follows an earlier statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He compared the strike in Doha to the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. Netanyahu warned countries like Qatar to expel or prosecute Hamas leaders or face Israeli action. “If you don’t act, we will,” he declared.
Despite the aggressive tone from Israeli leadership, Herzog’s remarks suggested a diplomatic opening. He implied that Israel still seeks a deal but blames Hamas for delays. Qatar, a key mediator in past Gaza ceasefires, now finds itself in a tense and uncertain position. The recent strike in Doha has added new risks to its role.
As tensions escalate, the path to peace remains unclear. Israel claims readiness for resolution, but continued strikes and threats cloud the process. The international community watches closely as diplomatic channels struggle to stay open. The fate of hostages, civilians, and regional stability hangs in the balance.
