Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan to express sympathy with the flood-affected communities. She visited flood relief camp set up at Government College Jalalpur Pirwala, and personally interacted with the flood victims and shared their grief. She consoled flood-affected women by extending heartfelt sympathies, embraced and assured them that their issues would be resolved at the earliest. She showed special affection for children, personally served them food and fed a young child spoonful of ‘zarda’ (sweet rice), expressing maternal care.
A special meal was arranged for the flood victims on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who herself finalized the menu. She also distributed fruits among women and children and sat down with the women to share a meal. A deeply emotional moment occurred when an elderly woman began sobbing; Madam Chief Minister hugged her and comforted her with kind words. In another touching scene, an elderly citizen expressed his emotions by saying,”When you were in pain, we cried; now we are suffering and you stand by us. May you live long, you are like our own daughters.”
Chief Minister also handed over financial aid cheques to the families of those who lost their lives in floods. Food packages and relief goods from King Salman Aid and Relief Centre as well as from PDMA were also distributed among flood victims. Women in the relief camp expressed profound gratitude for President PML-N Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for always standing by them in times of difficulty. In a show of empathy, Madam Chief Minister sat with a veiled elderly woman to inquire about her well-being and shared a meal with the flood-affected women.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also oversaw distribution of food and essential supplies provided by King Salman Aid and Relief Centre and Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif reached flood protection dyke in Jalalpur Pirwala city after visiting flood relief camp. A massive crowd gathered at Jalalpur Pirwala bypass to welcome her. She announced to construct a permanent flood protection dyke for Jalalpur Pirwala, and launched Gilani Expressway Project for Uch Sharif. She also announced a special relief package for the flood-affected population of Jalalpur Pirwala.
As a relief measures, Madam Chief Minister announced that Rs 01 million financial assistance for the families of each individual who lost their life during devastating floods. She also announced Rs. 01 million compensation for completely destroyed houses and rupees 500,000 for partially damaged homes (single-room damage) along with Rs. 500,000 compensation for loss of large livestock and Rs. 50,000 for loss of small livestock. She instructed Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb to remain in Jalalpur Pirwala to monitor and oversee the evacuation operations personally.
On directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, more rescue boats and other relief equipment have been provided for carrying out flood rescue operations in six cities of southern Punjab including Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Lodhran, where more than 119 boat operators have also been deployed for conducting rescue operations.
