A powerful deluge has struck several districts of Punjab as rivers Chenab, Sutlej, and Ravi overflowed, submerging over two hundred villages and badly affecting thousands of residents across Kasur, Bahawalnagar, Arifwala, Chiniot, and Khanewal.
The Sutlej River reported a high flood with a water flow of 369,144 cusecs, while at Head Ganda Singhwala the water level rose to 23 feet, causing heavy pressure on protective dykes and embankments.
In Kasur district alone, around 130 villages went under water, leaving more than one lakh people affected. Similarly, in Bahawalnagar, floodwaters reached Bokahan Patan and Head Sulemanki, recording a heavy flow of 137,232 cusecs.
Moreover, dykes breached near Basti Allah Baksh, Basti Janan Wali, and Mari Mian Sahib, which worsened the situation and submerged entire settlements, forcing families to leave their homes and move to safer places.
In Arifwala, a high flood in the Sutlej swept through dozens of villages, while in Chiniot more than 100 villages were inundated after the Chenab River rose to dangerous levels overnight, disrupting normal life severely.
Meanwhile, at Khanewal, the Ravi River swelled rapidly, flooding several villages and compelling residents to take shelter under the open sky. Authorities have warned that the flood situation may worsen if rains continue.
