ISLAMABAD: The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has officially announced the schedule for the Central Superior Services (CSS) exams for the year 2026. The process will begin with the MCQ-based Preliminary Test (MPT), which is a mandatory first step for all CSS aspirants. A public notice for MPT applications will be issued on August 10, 2025.
Candidates can submit their online applications for the MPT between August 11 and August 25, 2025. Only those who qualify this preliminary test will be allowed to apply for the written part of the CSS exams. The FPSC has set the date for the written CSS examination to start from February 4, 2026, giving candidates ample time to prepare.
Once candidates pass the MPT, they must submit their applications for the written exam between December 15 and December 30, 2025. This phased schedule is designed to streamline the selection process and ensure only eligible applicants appear for the final stage of the competitive exams.
The CSS exam is considered one of the most prestigious in Pakistan, offering entry into the country’s top federal services. It opens doors to roles in administration, foreign affairs, customs, inland revenue, and other critical sectors of governance. As a result, it attracts thousands of candidates every year.
In a major policy shift, the National Assembly has recently approved an extension in the upper age limit for CSS aspirants. Starting from the 2026 exams, the maximum age has been increased from 30 to 35 years. Additionally, an extra attempt will also be allowed to facilitate candidates entering the workforce later or needing more preparation time.
These changes aim to make the exam more accessible and inclusive. With the updated timeline and relaxed rules, more aspiring civil servants can now take advantage of the opportunity to serve the nation through the CSS platform.
