Aleema Khan moves court over Imran’s legal rights

Published on: July 25, 2025 3:31 PM

ISLAMABAD – Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder and ex-prime minister Imran Khan, has approached the Islamabad High Court seeking permission for him to sign a crucial legal document. The petition, filed through her legal team led by Barrister Salman Safdar, asks the court to allow Imran Khan to sign a power of attorney needed for filing an appeal. This step is essential after the Lahore High Court rejected his bail applications, making the way to the Supreme Court the next legal option.

According to the petition, the power of attorney document was submitted earlier to the deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is currently incarcerated. However, even though the documents were signed by him, they have not yet been returned. The legal team emphasized that these signed papers are urgently required for initiating the appeal process in the Supreme Court.

Furthermore, the petition highlights that the legal deadline for submitting the appeal in the apex court is fast approaching. The delay in receiving the signed documents could hinder Imran Khan’s ability to challenge the LHC’s verdict in time. The lawyers also expressed concern that without the proper signatures, the appeal may not be accepted by the Supreme Court.

Therefore, Aleema Khan has requested the Islamabad High Court to issue clear directions to Adiala Jail authorities. These directions would ensure that the PTI founder is allowed to officially sign the power of attorney again if needed, or that the previously signed documents are returned without further delay. The petition stresses the importance of protecting Imran Khan’s right to legal representation and appeal.

In addition, the legal team has urged the court to treat the matter as urgent, given the strict timelines involved in approaching the Supreme Court. They stated that denying timely access to legal paperwork could be seen as a violation of Imran Khan’s basic legal rights. Aleema Khan’s plea aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the ongoing legal process.

Meanwhile, PTI supporters and legal experts are closely watching how the court responds to this application. The outcome may significantly affect Imran Khan’s next steps in his ongoing legal battle and his political future as well.
