The United Nations has accused Israel of deliberately targeting Palestinian women and girls in Gaza due to their ability to bear children. UN special envoy Rim Al-Saleem said Israel’s actions are part of an “unprecedented and ruthless plan” to commit genocide against Palestinians. She emphasized that all Palestinians—including men, women, boys, and girls—are suffering, but women and girls face unique and deliberate attacks.
Al-Saleem explained that Israel is aware Palestinian women represent the hope for the future of Palestinian life. Therefore, they are being targeted intentionally to weaken the Palestinian population’s continuity. She said these actions are aimed at reducing Palestinian existence and breaking the cycle of Palestinian life.
The UN report revealed a sharp increase in miscarriages and severe malnutrition among Palestinian women due to extreme food shortages and blockade conditions. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are struggling to nourish their children. Additionally, Israel has blocked critical supplies such as baby formula, worsening the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Al-Saleem compared Israel’s siege on Gaza to Nazi Germany’s brutal siege during the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II. She condemned the blockade that stops vital medical and food supplies from entering Gaza. This harsh restriction severely threatens the survival of Palestinian families and children.
The UN urged the international community to recognize Israel’s actions as genocide. It called for urgent steps to protect Palestinian civilians, especially women and children. The UN also stressed the need for immediate humanitarian aid access to Gaza to save lives and prevent further suffering.
