Fawad says Nawaz’s revenge against Imran backfired, slams current political setup

Published on: July 6, 2025 12:13 PM

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said Nawaz Sharif damaged his own political standing by focusing on revenge against PTI founder Imran Khan. He stated that Nawaz’s decisions weakened his party’s influence and public image. Speaking on a TV show, Fawad argued that personal grudges should not drive national politics, as they often lead to political isolation.

He also claimed that major parties like PTI, PPP, and PML-N have no real say in the current political setup. According to Fawad, power now lies outside traditional political circles. He said while Imran Khan is in jail, Nawaz Sharif lives like a prisoner in his own home, showing that neither holds real control over affairs today.

Fawad explained that he had advised PTI earlier to form alliances before entering any dialogue process. In his view, direct negotiations without unity or political strength lead to further setbacks. He criticized the party’s current leadership for failing to organize mass protests or launch a strong movement for Imran Khan’s release.

Moreover, Fawad warned that Shehbaz Sharif completing his full term would be bad news for the people. He said Shehbaz’s policies have weakened parliamentary traditions and damaged democratic values. This, he argued, has created a disconnect between the government and the public.

He also claimed that several imprisoned PTI leaders are unhappy with the party’s current direction. Fawad pointed out that leaders like Omar Ayub and Salman Akram Raja have not shown the leadership needed to energize the party’s supporters. As a result, he said, PTI has failed to build real momentum on the ground.
