The Sindh Home Department has officially imposed Section 144 across the province from 1st to 10th Muharram to ensure public safety and religious harmony. This decision comes ahead of the sensitive month of Muharram, when large religious gatherings and processions take place. A formal notification has been issued by the department to enforce the restrictions.
Under the imposed Section 144, all types of public gatherings, rallies, and processions will require prior permission from authorities. Carrying of licensed or unlicensed weapons, including display of arms, is strictly banned. The use of drones, heli-cams, and loudspeakers without official clearance has also been prohibited. These steps are taken to avoid any potential threat or misuse of technology during large gatherings.
The notification makes it clear that weapon permits will remain suspended during this period across Sindh. Religious and political leaders have been asked to strictly follow the rules. Any violation could result in legal action, including arrests. The law enforcement agencies will be deployed in sensitive areas to monitor and respond to any untoward incidents swiftly.
Furthermore, on the 9th and 10th of Muharram—days of major processions and religious significance—motorcycle pillion riding will be completely banned throughout Sindh. This restriction is aimed at preventing potential attacks or misuse of bikes in crowded areas. However, journalists, women, children, and emergency staff may be exempted in special cases with proper identification.
The government of Sindh has appealed to the public to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with security forces. Religious leaders and organizers of Muharram events are encouraged to maintain coordination with local authorities. These strict but necessary measures are part of the government’s commitment to ensure a safe and respectful environment during the holy days.
