Gilani welcomes Jahangir Tareen’s possible entry into PPP as ‘positive sign’

Published on: June 25, 2025 12:50 PM

Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that if Jahangir Tareen joins the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), it would be a positive development for the party. In a recent statement, Gilani expressed strong support for Tareen, calling him a brother and a close relative.

He stated that Tareen’s entry would further strengthen the PPP and add political weight to the party, especially in Punjab. Gilani emphasized that Punjab is not just Lahore but a vast and diverse province with a population of over 120 million—larger than many countries.

Speaking about regional disparities, Gilani highlighted the backwardness and high unemployment in South Punjab. He urged the Punjab government to ensure equal rights and development for both Central and South Punjab, stressing the need for investment in education and employment in underdeveloped areas.

Switching to national security, Gilani commented on India’s propaganda against Pakistan regarding terrorism. He noted that the global community has rejected India’s narrative, showing confidence in Pakistan’s stance on the issue.

He also warned that if India blocks Pakistan’s water, it would be considered an open declaration of war. Gilani said that such actions could escalate tensions dangerously and must be avoided at all costs.

Concluding his remarks, Gilani reflected on the historical tension between Pakistan and India. He stated that if their past conflicts had not been stopped in time, they could have turned into a full-scale third world war, underlining the importance of peace and diplomacy in the region.
