PM sets $125 billion agriculture export goal by 2030

Government rolls out major reforms to transform farming, fisheries, and livestock sectors

LAHORE – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif aims to boost Pakistan’s agriculture exports to $125 billion by 2030 under a new vision for a second green revolution, said Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, on Saturday.

During a meeting at the PASSCO head office, the minister highlighted 28 major initiatives that the government is implementing to uplift the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors. These efforts are aimed at improving value chains, increasing exports, and earning valuable foreign exchange.

To achieve this, six specialised working groups will focus on key areas such as digital technology, research, farmer training, mechanisation, legal reforms, and overall sector growth. The goal is to digitally empower farmers so they can access vital services more easily and increase productivity.

Rana Tanveer praised Punjab’s progress, crediting the reforms led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Punjab Agriculture Minister Ashiq Hussain Kirmani shared that a Rs400 billion transformation plan is underway to modernise farming methods across the province.

Kirmani added that four Agri Malls will open this year, with the number growing to ten next year. Farmers are also receiving modern machinery on rent at the tehsil level, helping to improve yields with advanced seed technologies.

In addition, the Punjab Kisan Card has already helped distribute Rs55 billion in interest-free loans. Over 9,500 farmers have received subsidised green tractors with a Rs1 million subsidy per unit. Next year, mobile extension offices will offer free soil and water testing in every union council to further support local farmers.
