FBI declares palm springs fertility clinic explosion an ‘act of terrorism’

Published on: May 18, 2025 3:36 PM

PALM SPRINGS – A deadly explosion outside the American Reproductive Centers (ARC) clinic in Palm Springs has been officially declared an “intentional act of terrorism” by the FBI. The Saturday morning blast killed one person and injured four others, shaking the typically peaceful city.

The explosion occurred around 11:00 a.m. near the clinic’s parking lot on North Indian Canyon Drive. According to officials, a vehicle was the source of the blast, which also caused heavy damage to nearby buildings. A tripod with a smartphone was found at the scene, raising suspicions that the incident may have been livestreamed.

FBI Los Angeles field office chief Akil Davis confirmed that the explosion was intentional. Investigators are working to determine whether the attack was carried out by a domestic or international actor. A “person of interest” has been identified, and officials believe the deceased individual may have been the perpetrator.

Fortunately, no patients were inside the clinic at the time of the blast. Dr. Maher Abdallah, who runs the facility, confirmed that the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) lab and all stored embryos and reproductive materials were unharmed. However, consultation offices sustained significant damage.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic. Residents heard a loud boom followed by smoke and flying debris. “It felt like a bomb went off,” said nearby worker Nima Tabrizi. Another witness reported only a car’s front axle remained after the blast.

Federal and local law enforcement, including the ATF, are continuing their investigation. California Governor Gavin Newsom and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi have pledged full support. The incident has sparked renewed concerns as reproductive health clinics remain flashpoints in the nation’s heated political debate.
