Right to education for all stressed

Published on: October 25, 2017 2:49 AM

SUKKUR: Journalists at a training workshop expressed concern over delay in implementation of right to education law and said that civil society organisations and media should highlight the issue and force government to implement Article 25-A of Constitution for providing free compulsory education to children up to 16 years of age.

The training workshop for journalists of electronic and print media was organised by Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) in collaboration with Foundation of Open Society and Rural Support Programme Network (RSPN) at Kashmore-Kandhkot.

Discussing state of education in Pakistan, Social Services Sector SRSO Senior Manager Naimatullah Shaikh said that Article 25-A had been approved in April 2011, but it was yet to be implemented.

He said that it was duty of civil society and media to create awareness of law under which compulsory education should be provided free of cost to children from age 5 to 16.

He said that in rural areas of Kashmore-Kandhkot and Jaccababad, 20 percent of children were out of school.
