QUETTA –The Balochistan government announced on Sunday that the securityforceshave killed Omar Abdul Latif– chief of al Qaeda in Balochistan and South Punjab – in Chaghi district near the Pak-Afghan border. Addressinga press conference,Home Affairs Minister SarfarazBugtisaid that Omar Abdul Latif– aliasLuqman– wasstriving to establish al Qaeda Sub-Continent Centrein the district. “Major terror bid has been foiled in Balochistan,” he said. Actingon a tip off, the security forces had conducted an operation during which the wife of the al Qaeda militant commander was also arrested.The wife of the dead ‘commander’ was identified as Tayyaba alias FreehaBaji. “Security personnel are interrogating the commander’s wife,”he said. He also said that two children of the militant ‘commander’ were also taken into custody for interrogation. “The al Qaeda commander had fled from Afghanistan to Pakistan eight or 10 months back,” he said, adding an operation was under way against terrorists and terrorist outfitsas part of National Action Plan.
