Sir: The Kasur incident has set my heart in a state of agitation. It grieves me beyond description that we live in a country where our children are not safe from the men of their own country.
What shall become of the wretched 280 children with their childhood memories replaced by the nightmare they had to endure? A child who suffers from so serious a mishap is never going to be the same again. It is their age of primary socialisation and their juvenile minds may mistake it for normal behaviour. Chances are there that some of them may grow as the Kasur culprits while others might never regain their sense of security and confidence.
We have lost a substantial number of children to the heinousness prevalent in our society; the children are vulnerable while we have failed as a nation.
I beg the government to pay heed to eradicating such social ills and punish the culprits who robbed the innocent souls of their childhood. Child abuse laws must be strictly regulated and NGOs too should play a crucial part in their enforcement. But most importantly, we should all take care of our own children.
