Sir: The assassination of Punjab Home Minister Colonel (retd) Shuja Khanzada by unknown terrorists once again brought the menace of terrorism into the limelight. The responsibility for the attack has been claimed by militant outfit Lashkara-e-Islam as the Punjab government had launched a search operation against the group. Speculations are rife that the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi is involved in the attack because the group’s leader Malik Ishaq was killed by the Punjab police two weeks ago. The attack was a failure of the intelligence and security agencies of the Punjab government because the agencies failed to provide proper security arrangements. According to the media reports, his security squad and anti-terrorism force were absent at the time of the attack. This attack has renewed the fear that terrorists can easily target any place in the country. The attack also created suspicions about the success of the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists in restive tribal areas. The attack showed that the terrorists are still well organised in Punjab.. ZIAULLAH KHAN Lakki Marwat
