LAHORE – Four unknown motorcyclists opened fire at a police picket causing death of two police constables in Iqbal Town police limits on Wednesday. The accused person easily managed to escape from the crime scene. According to the details, police constables Asif and Mubashar along with other officials were performing duty at a picket near Pakhawala Chowk towards Dubai Chowk. When four masked men were riding on two motorcycles approached near to them and opened straight firing on police personnel as a result constables Asif and Mubashar received serious bullet injuries, while the other police officials luckily remained safe. The injured police personnel were rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to injuries. Upon being informed, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, SSP investigation and other police officers reached the spot and monitored the investigation procedure. The police high ups also visited the hospital to enquire the condition of injured policemen where doctors informed that both police officials died because one official received two bullets in his chest and other received two bullets in his head. Later, police shifted the dead body to city mortuary for autopsy. Police did not register the case till the filing of this report. Dr Haider said that three police teams have been constituted to probe the matter immediately. He said that police also cordon off the area as well as its surrounding areas where police is starting search operation. He said that police collected the evidence and starting the investigation procedure at all angels. He said that the culprits would be arrested soon. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of firing at picket in Iqbal Town and sought a report from CCPO Lahore. He expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of two police constables due to firing and sympathies and condolences with the bereaved families. The chief minister directed that the accused involved in the incident of firing should immediately be arrested.
