KARACHI: Council for Sustainable Development (CPD) has launched its civil society campaign “Zimmadari Tehreek” at Karachi Press Club on Saturday wherein many prominent members of the press, civil society representatives, govt officials and others participated. The campaign is aimed at synchronising the efforts from all sectors, citizen’s ownership in adopting responsible attitudes towards climate change and maintain cleanliness of their own locality. Muqtida Mansoor, Salam Dharejo, Iftikhar Soomro, Nasrullah Thahim, Musarrat Jabeen, Ateeq from Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and other senior civil society representatives participated in this ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, senior iournalist Muqtida Mansoor ensured his support for the campaign to ask journalist community to play its role into this campaign. Salam Dharejo, Iftikhar Soomro, Nasrullah Thahim, Musarrat Jabeen and Ateequr Rehman from KCCI and other senior civil society representatives participated in the event. CPD President Bilquis Rehman said, “We are launching our fund raising drive for Zimmadari Tehreek to create activism in citizens, especially in youth for improving citizen’s ownership. CPD Council Board Member Nasrullah Thaheem said that this campaign aimed at synchronising efforts of citizen and city municipal authorities for maintaining the hygienic condition and environment sustainability. The background of launching this campaign is that there is a huge need to channelise all opportunities to strengthen the efforts to improve city’s sanitation condition. For this, education and citizen activism and support will be required to engage with authorities and also build pressure to accelerate local government mechanism.
