LAHORE: It is obligatory for the prime minister to resign before the start of any investigation pertaining to the Panama leaks; otherwise it would be an exercise in futility. Pakistan Awami Tehreek chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri stated this while addressing central leaders of the party via video link from Canada on Tuesday. Dr Tahirul Qadri said since the inception of Panama leaks, PAT has been demanding all the Terms of Reference, which the opposition parties are now suggesting in Islamabad. He said that there should be no compromise on the process of accountability and if this happens, it would be treason with the people of the country. The PAT chief said that concept of ‘conflict of interest’ should also be probed and reality should come forward that how much benefit did the children of the prime minister gained from the influence of their father or how much was the state power used by the Sharif family. He said the prime minister very cleverly asked the Supreme Court to investigate under the 1956 law, but the prime minister should have presented himself for accountability unconditionally. He said for a powerful commission, fresh legislation should be introduced and no inordinate delay would be accepted in this regard. Qadri said the national exchequer has been deprived of billions of rupees and no compromise would be acceptable and the looted money should be bought back without any delay. He said the commission should be given a timeframe to complete the investigations and the result should be put before the whole nation transparently.
