RAWALPINDI – City Traffic Police (CTP) on Friday launched an operation against beggars and apprehended at least 140 beggars and registered 82 First Information Reports (FIR) in different police stations of the city against the beggars. Meanwhile, at least 54 children begging on the roads were held and handed over to the Child Protection Bureau during an operation conducted by the City Traffic Police against beggars during the month of April, 2016. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Iftikharul Haq said that the city traffic Police and Rawalpindi District Police have constituted a joint anti-beggars squad to eliminate beggars strolling on the roads and streets. He termed the looming issue of pauperism as a “menace to the society”. He also said that if the citizens face any inconvenience triggered by the beggars and street wanderers, they should contact the traffic police helpline and complain regarding the situation.
