KARACHI: BCW – Gold Edition 2016 Day 2 saw exciting shows from a handful of noteworthy designers. Bibi London Designers Neeta Lulla and Tarun Tahiliani for London’s leading multi-brand store Bibi London, exhibited collections that were a treat for girls who are big fans of Indian ethnic wear. Neeta Lulla is renowned for a plethora of beautiful designs, when it comes to bridal trousseau. Pinks and oranges fused together made the clothes look royal. We saw a blend of vintage and contemporary designs that speak tonnes about style. Tarun Tahiliani’s collection featured some extravagant pieces. Deepak & Fahad The designer duo Deepak & Fahad’s collection was called Taajwardi. The major highlights of the collection included regal pure zari and zardozi bridals in colour ways like gold, maroon and red. Their showcase opened with choreographer and entrepreneur Hasan Rizvi’s dance performance on “Chaiyyan chaiyyan”, which was full of pep and captivated the crowd. The collection fully embraced traditional opulence. Actors Hareem Farooq and Danish Taimur lit up the crowd. Uzma Babar Umsha by Uzma Babar was up next with her Dure Shahwar collection, which was a blend of modern cuts and designs featuring shararas and ghararas. Until recent times, brides had been donning solely red for their big day. But the time-honoured bridal had been re-imagined by Uzma Babar. The colour palette was focused on rich and royal tones such as beige and plum. Mansha Pasha and Tipu showstopped for the designer. Ayesha Ibrahim Ayesha Ibrahim was next to display her collection titled Jashan-e-Aroosi, which was a mix of long gowns, angrakhas, short hemlines paired with princess cut lehngas and ghararas, crystal Swarovski embellishments, French knots and zardozi. The colour palette varied from hues of beige, maroons and silver. The modern bride can now don a blue bridal for her nuptials and that’s a huge step! The models were laden with diamonds. Actress Sumbal Iqbal showstopped for the designer. Kuki Concepts Zahid Khan of Kuki Concepts showcased his Dil Avaiz collection. It was a very traditional collection, inspired by the poetry of yesteryears, featuring tila, dabka and lots of gota work on jackets, shawls and lachas in a myriad of colours. Turbans and pearl jewellery were the accessories used. Zahid Khan’s final piece on the runway was a fiery red ensemble that stood apart. The collection showcased brides in heritage fabrics. A good choice for the mayon and mehndi outfits for the bridesmaids. Actors Ahsan Khan and Naveen Waqar showstopped for the designer. Tena Durrani Tena Durrani opened Act Two with her collection Mon Reve, which featured delicate French inspired embroideries and fine craftsmanship. The collection exuded grace and poise. For me, it was undoubtedly the most-anticipated showcase of the day and it was well worth the wait. Brilliant! Actress Ayesha Omar showstopped for the designer. GOAL BY Fauzia Hammad Next up was Goal by Fauzia Hammad. Traditional cuts with pale pastels and a dash of glimmer and pearls made the outfits a dream for any bride, who’s not experimental but wants to look pretty on her wedding day. Shaista Lodhi, Saim Ali and Ayesha Sana showstopped fopr the designer. Zainab Chottani Zainab Chottani closed Day 2 with her collection Daastan. Her bridal and formal collection was set in shades of blue, white and silver. These outfits will be on the wish list of the ever evolving and ever decadent modern Pakistani bride. A collection that won’t give you trouble finding designs that suit the mood of the occasion. From shararas to gowns to harem pants, the options were endless. Model-turned-actress Iman Ali showstopped for the designer.
