ISLAMABAD: The month of April was seen as ominous as the incidents of murder and attempt to murder remained on a path to ascendancy with 12 persons losing their lives and 82 persons sustaining critical injuries in 84 such cases reported in 30 police stations of district Rawalpindi during the month. The graph of robbery and banditry related incidents touched the highest level amid reports that the citizens were deprived of 65 vehicles, 38 motorcycles, jewellery worth millions of rupees and valuables in 241 incidents of robbery, theft and banditry. The police registered 558 cases on account of routine crimes, gambling and illicit arms. According to police records for the period from April, 01 to April, 30, 2016 as many as 12 people lost their lives in incidents related to old enmity and clashes. Citizens were critically injured in 28 incidents of attempt to murder. 54 persons were reported to have been injured in clashes and brawls. Citizens were deprived of valuables costing millions of rupees at gun point in 60 incidents of robbery and banditry. Three vehicles and three motorcycles were also snatched on gun point and 97 vehicles and bikes were reported to have been stolen. Seven cases of sexual assaults including one incident of rape with a minor were reported. 44 cases of kidnapping including four cases of kidnapping of children took place. Five incidents of suicide and one incident of acid throwing also occurred. 44 cars, 35 motorcycles and 18 other vehicles were stolen in different incidents of car thefts. 102 cases of possession of prohibited bore arms were registered. Million of rupees stake money and valuables were seized in 13 cases of gambling. It may be mentioned that police do not register 50 per cent cases of robbery and theft and the complainants withdraw their complaints after making persistent unsuccessful rounds of the police stations.
