ISLAMABAD: The Senate standing committee on Federal Education and Professional Training in its meeting dropped down the request made by the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) for the issuance of licenses for prohibited bore weapons, whereas the committee recommended that CDA should immediately give NOC to IIUI to build a boundary wall to dispel the security concerns it faces. While discussing the security issues being faced by the IIUI, the promoter of this agenda item, Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, who is also a member of the Board of Governors (BOGs) of the same university told the committee; “the university is facing problems in countering the ongoing security threat as the varsity is forced to depend on low bore weapons in absence of licenses for prohibited bore weapons, which are essential to promptly counter any type of terrorist assault.” The Rector IIUI, Dr Masoom Yaseenzai while adding his view on the point said; “We want to complete the boundary wall to secure our premises, but CDA is creating hurdles in the way and has restricted us on the wall’s constructon.” He said further; “establishment of slum settlements on our land is also a serious threat for the security, but CDA is in no mood to assist us in removal of these illegal settlements.” Dr. Masoom Yasenzai also highlighted health issues being faced by IIUI due to the CDA asphalt plant nearby the main gate of university on Kashmir Highway and requested the committee to direct the civic authority to remove it from the vicinity of the IIUI. Responding on the IIUI’s request for the weapon licenses, Senator Sehar Kamran categorically rejected the proposal and said; “how is it possible that we allow your institute to carry prohibited bore weapons as we don’t know what the state of training in your security wing is. The Rector IIUI added; “if the government can establish Airport Security Force (ASF) to protect the airports then there is also a dare need to establish a force to protect educational institutions on the same lines.”
